How everyday Aussies are actually sorting their money in 2026

Real people. Real numbers. No jargon. One email every Thursday — the way you'd hear it at a barbie in Parramatta or over a flat white in Brunswick.

A Thursday morning read for teachers, tradies, nurses, small business owners — anyone who ever opened their MyGov and thought, "hang on".
Editor's note

Why we started this

Most finance coverage is written for people who already know what a franking credit is. That's not most of us. Honestly, most Australians are working out this stuff as they go — the first offset account, the first time you actually opened MyGov and looked at your super balance, the moment you realised the fixed-rate roll-off was coming and nobody had explained what happens next.

So we did something simple. We started asking regular people how they were handling it. A nurse in Adelaide who paid down $18,000 of credit card debt in fourteen months. A tradie in Newcastle who moved his super from a default fund and worked out the fees were eating $2,400 a year. A single mum in Logan who took the government's new energy rebate and actually got it applied without spending three hours on hold.

"These aren't celebrities and they're not finance influencers. They're just people who worked something out and were willing to talk about it."

We started in early 2025 with 400 readers. We're at just over 61,000 now, mostly through word of mouth. Teachers, small business owners, people in their forties looking at their super and going "hang on". It's a pretty broad crowd.

This week's stories

Three Australians, three money moves. A preview of what lands in your inbox on Thursday.

The nurse who cleared $18k on the credit card in 14 months

Sarah, 34, was carrying four cards and a personal loan. She talks us through the balance-transfer shuffle, the two months it nearly went sideways, and the app she used to keep herself honest.

A tradie found $2,400 a year hiding in his super fees

Damo, 41, hadn't touched his super since his first job in 2004. He walks us through the fee comparison sheet, why he switched from a retail fund, and what he wishes he'd checked ten years earlier.

How Nat got the energy rebate applied without the three-hour hold

Since the federal subsidy ended in December, power bills have jumped again. Nat, a single mum of two, walks us through exactly which form, which line to call and what she said to get it moving in twenty minutes.

What lands in your inbox, every Thursday morning

One email. About six minutes. That's the deal.

3 stories from real Aussies

Not case studies, not celebrities. Just people who worked something out and were willing to share the numbers.

1 number worth knowing

Where the RBA cash rate landed. What happened with the latest inflation print. In plain English, one paragraph.

1 thing you can do this week

A concrete action — a form to fill, a number to ring, a rate to compare. Never a sales pitch. Never an affiliate link.

No sponsored content dressed up as advice

If we ever run an ad, it's marked in bold at the top of the email. That's a promise we've kept for 61,000+ readers.

Honestly the only finance newsletter I actually open. Most of them read like a bank wrote them. This one reads like a mate who happens to know what they're on about. Signed up in March, still here.

I'm not a numbers person and I always felt a bit dumb reading the finance pages. This is written for people like me. The story about the couple in Wollongong sorting their offset out made me finally look at ours. Saved us about $180 a month, no exaggeration.

My husband thinks it's funny that a newsletter got me interested in super at 52. But look — nobody had ever explained it to me in normal English before. Six minutes on a Thursday morning with my coffee, that's it. Worth it.
